PMO To Go provides services to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Project Management activities in an organization and to reduce related costs for application development and application support.

 

The approach used by PMO To Go consultants (all certified Project Management Professionals) is to establish a baseline of current performance by conducting software process assessments based on the Software Engineering Institute’s Capability Maturity Model.

 

 

 

Project Management capability assessments of non-IT organizations are performed using current Project Management Maturity Models (PMMM).

 

The current performance baseline is used to determine the path forward for an IT organization, from cost reduction and optimization perspectives.
 

OPTION 1: Establish an outsourced Project Management Office (PMO) function to align new and existing projects with defined business strategies and to better control and manage IT spending through Project Portfolio Management.

PMO To Go will perform this function on an interim basis while providing Project Management methods and tools training to the organization’s Project Managers to better enable Project Portfolio Management and Reporting, as well as better control over IT spending.    Project Management training is based on the Project Management Institute’s Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide).

 

OPTION 2: Establish an internal PMO function by selecting the most appropriate PMO Model (Project Level, Multi-Department Level or Enterprise Level) for the organization.

PMO To Go provides assistance in the process of staffing the PMO with the appropriate skilled resources, the selection and implementation of required processes and tools, as well as Project Management training and PMP certification programs.

 

 


 

Application delivery processes are integrated with leading-edge techniques such as Joint Application Development (JAD), to reduce the time required to deliver or modify systems and reduce related cost.   Recommended software tools to support Project Portfolio Management and project delivery activities are typically Web-based and will encompass the entire lifecycle from strategic planning to individual team members reporting time spent on each project task. The services of PMO To Go include the implementation of enhanced Quality Management System practices to ISO 9000:2000 standards.

 

 

Options 1 and 2 are viable solutions for non-IT organizations wishing to create an improved Project Management environment for their project activities while optimizing and reducing related project management costs.    Stated approaches for the establishment of a PMO, Project Portfolio Management processes, Project Management training as well as Project Management methods and software tools are as applicable to IT organizations as to other industry sectors.


 

 

 

OPTION 3: Support the organization in an IT environment in identifying less costly application development and maintenance activities through offshore outsourcing.

PMO To Go assesses the viability of solutions for new or existing outsourcing agreements and partners with other well-established and well-known companies that provide this type of service at extremely low cost.   In these situations, PMO To Go supports the outsourcing organization in establishing minimally required PMO and Project Management functionality to support systems being developed or maintained overseas.  PMO To Go will manage implementation of the most appropriate Web-based Project Management Information System software to support the work of virtual teams, in the U.S. and internationally.
