Step through our participation on the PM Historical Timeline.
The decade of the 80’s was a watershed in technology and history. AT&T was fragmented, the PC was invented, and ISO published the Open System Interconnect (OSI) reference model. The Berlin Wall came down and the Soviet Union crumbled.
The decade of the 90’s took the 80’s results and brought Internet accessibility to the world. In 1996, PMI published the first edition of the PMBOK® Guide. ISO standards received international support allowing interoperability. The fearsome potential of Y2K delayed most projects and consumed an enormous amount of resources.
The 2nd millenium began with a crash as overhyped dot coms disappeared, but the infrastructure remained and the world became flat.
In 2000, PMI published the 2nd edition of the PMBOK® Guide, followed by the 3rd edition in 2004, and the 4th edition in 2008. The value of project management and of certified project managers became apparent worldwide. The International Institute for Business Analysis (IIBA) was founded in 2003 and published Version 2 of The Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge in 2008.
